This is a misinterpretation. The "ego"(a very wonky, not very appropriate translation of maybe several sanskrit words) that is to be destroyed, to be liberated from and which is the cause of suffering is in fact the Monkey Mind, which is tossed about to and fro, being led around by the nose by the devil.
The higher Self one is to be left with is by no means always the stereotype monk who sits in a cave eating nothing but his breath. It's just that the people who develop meditation techniques and write dharmic texts, the *visible* people, *their* Authentic Higher Self happens to be that.
But in essence, the higher Self that is Liberated from the "ego"(Chitta) is that divinely driven one that I believe you also refer to, the unironic "Gigachad"(if I'm remembering that article right). He fights when it is time to fight, he fucks when it time to fuck and he knows he is One with God's Will. Whether his destiny is to (famously, see the Bhagavad Gita) fight a cruel battle or to Chop Wood and Carry Water.
It is very much about authentic Be-ing, about Is-ness, about shedding the ego's pull to Be something one is not, its wish for reality to be different from what it Is(which is the Cause Of Suffering in the dharmic literature).
Language encodes perception for reasoning, its range of raw data representation is orders of magnitude larger than reason parses out of it. Mathematicians only use limited artificial languages (context free grammars, programming "languages" with their own paradoxes like printf etc) or explore language and discover paradoxes along the way (Russel, naming smallest 100 digit numbers etc). That is why LLMs seem alive - they learn language, not logic.
