It's crazy to see the difference between my friends who used to do forums and my friends who only used profile social media. Definitely on the right track here

It started with the French Revolution through Romanticism and the emphasis on human emotion and connection with nature. Up till this point, friendship was exalted over other forms of love, because the ability to befriend (starkly different from "to ally with") is uniquely human and not really connected with or explained by biological nature. C.S. Lewis discusses this in The Four Loves.

The words "free" and "friend" share a root word in Old English. To be truly free is to have protected communion with your friends. The last two centuries have been about breaking down protectionism. Now we can't even post our frogs without getting vilified.
