i got distracted while reading the story but i like the conclussion
hey ayn randy this is what u did: have insight, write a character around it, wrote a preface making excuses for it
now there is a made up story that completely matches your new concept without any discussion about edge cases: what if someone wants something, gets it and is happy with it for the rest of their life? its not my fault that instead of happiness you and me have internet loneliness autism ranchy
(((it does not matter that i'm sub average height or that i've been addicted to insight porn from day 1 }}}
the concept of wallowing in wanting something however is genius, i vaguely remember somethinf from SP? cannot wiat to use it 4 rationalize away my perceived lack of achievement
This was pretty good. I think I've met a few people like him.
I think the additional meat on the bone might be found in all the ways he's intentionally trying to be "off-brand" from the local stereotype.
Like, he tries to differentiate himself from his country of origin by mimicking the dress and mannerisms of the country he's in, not realizing that the look presented in the fashion ads he's buying from are actually designed, manufactured, and modeled by Russian-Jewish or Middle-Eastern immigrants. So the only way to pull this off is to either be local white and middle class, or to out-fetishize the fashion police by demonstrating an even deeper understanding of the source material (i.e. be Japanese). Instead, he sticks out because he's perpetually trying to look like the model, even though he doesn't look like the model. The clothes are too clean, the shoes too dirty. He's like a guy who wants to be a cowboy so he buys a pickup, but keeps it immaculately clean and hangs the wrong truck nuts.
Ironically, what would probably make him more attractive and interesting to the local populace would be if he were to embrace the stereotype yet Americanize it. Adidas tracksuits but from the modern retro line, gold chains but subtler and not yellow.
Anyway, it's an interesting concept. To me, it explains a lot about why people drink socially and then anti-socially.
"No person in the world has yet succeeded in showing someone a funny video on their phone, without the viewer feeling uncomfortable, because we all know instinctually, that this is a machine this guy uses to jerk off, and it feels overly intimate and unpleasant." brilliant.
Cus it's fun I guess

You have a very fresh perspective, well done.
