I was at the louvre earlier and I saw how they’d obsessively catalogued shit like hieroglyphic shopping lists and cuneiform street signs and whatever the fuck, because there were so few things that got written down back then, these were a huge fucking deal. I had to wonder how modernity’s writing would get remembered, and how there’d be so much they’d absolutely have to pick some crazy way to boil it down into something digestible to the future’s me (some dumb bitch with audioguide headphones). They mentioned nobody caring about the results of finally deciphering hieroglyphics because it ended up having nothing to do with the Bible, which was all anybody cared about at the time. It seems like history is getting flooded with data getting stored by our currently hyperliterate population, and what gets remembered is determined by a mixture of virality now (nobody of the literati shuts up about nietzsche, so his books keep getting printed and people keep learning it to seem smart) and interests later (3 different people have dragged illich out of the closet in the past month because he keeps predicting America’s future).

tldr I agree, you’re right, whatever you intend to convey by your writing won’t even make it into a passing reference in a footnote in the future, unless it piques the narcissistic navel gazing of future generations, or gets mentioned in every book written for the next 10 years.

wasnt really my point but also not wrong. me i dont care about legacy or literature or anything like that. I care about making 5 american dollars from navel gazers of today by impressing them with my technique

oh I did not mean you personally, I more meant my aspiring academic friends. the James Damore effect is IMO a combination of these two forces and I think it will also similarly affect people who want to one day have Wikipedia pages for themselves and their books.

I'm pretty sure all of this was documented in Gibbon's "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire" somewhere but I never read it.

The history books aren't being rewritten, but the ones that are ideologically acceptable are being "recommended". For a while, people were saying that self-publishing would crush traditional publishing because the indies are more interesting, deliver what people actually want, are cheaper to produce, etc.

But I think what's actually happened is that traditional publishing is going to eat self-publishing again because there's so much trash out there people don't know what to get. Publishers will divert their marketing budgets from book signings in dead bookstores to buying reviews on Amazon. Plus, they can adopt whatever other tactics work for the indies and just 100x it with money.

What does this have to do with your post? Well, there's nothing stopping governments and corporations from doing the same thing. It's not like these tactics only work on Truth, they're probably even more effective with books full of lies. So the books containing the history that the system wants us to remember will be the "Amazon Recommended" "5-star" bestsellers. And then the self-publishers, to win with the algorithm, will follow suite and write the same books. Voila! censorship, techno-capitalism style.

Your posts crack me up. Great style! One thing I assume is that this whole gender spectrum stuff is still the beginning. Humanity still has the potential to get even weirder in ways that we haven't seen yet. In many ways, this current view is still limited by the basic "understanding" of sexuality, and is an attempt to go beyond being "put into a box" "by society". The next level will be shedding the concept of what it means to be human, as we are "just brains in a jar", and can ultimately reach another potential. Obv this is mainly accessible to those with $$$$, so heckuity will be the tool probably still used to get there for "the masses". Just a guess.

Excellent article. This might be a silly question, but are you familiar with the author Kenneth Burke?
