On one hand, the voice of empathy in the media is obsessed with pain without purpose, extracting stories of suffering and amplifying their suffering while prohibiting expressing any purpose that pain could be related to (after all, purpose is impossible in post-post-modernism). On the other hand, the ultimate objective of modernist society - purpose without pain: life simplified into various agendas that deny the existence of their pain. Pain must be defeated, only purpose and self gratification can remain. But to carry a cross is to have a purpose and a pain, together, and for some paradoxical reason this is perfection.
