Nice write. I only got through one season of the show, I got bored. (I will defend Nosferatu, is a good movie with beautifully communicated themes, and the most visceral fourth wall break I ever saw… plus it is overtly a love letter to Twin Peaks)
I have never heard of Succession. We're watching 1980s Magnum PI which is surprisingly good, but it's sort of monster-of-the-week (case-of-the-week?) so there really isn't any seasons-long arc going on and we're likely your short-attention-span viewers... There is a little bit of continuity, which I like, but the show aired irregularly across hundreds of TV stations in different orders so they couldn't really make each episode run into the next... TV sure was different back then.
If you have the energy I'd recommend reading aloud to your S.O./ being read to to avoid time traps like this. Much more intimate and dignified; I can't think of a single TV show that isn't in some way degrading to watch. It's frankly an aphrodisiac btw. Randy media-medium switch arc? Good point about it really being about aging millennials being able to watch themselves on screen whilst having sufficient distance via class and setting to not have to change themselves while enjoying the frame of disapproval and judgement they fear to direct to themselves etc. I'm sorry about your 40 hours 07
'It is, in a phrase, long form entertainment for people with a short attention span. It is intentionally ambiguous at every level, to create the "vibe" of long form complexity, while being de facto, short form moment-to-moment Sitcom entertainment.'
Thank you for saving me 40 hours of my life and also allowing me to downgrade the value I place on anyone's recommendations if they push me to watch it
Have you seen Severance?
I got about a third of the way through really confused thinking he was talking about severance because I haven’t actually watched either show

Well that sounds just awful. Thanks for the warning and the spoilers.

I've never watched this, but it sounds like it has almost exactly the same problems as Yellowstone.
