I remember having a conversation around 2009 - when iPhones were starting to ruin social norms around dining together. We concluded that iPhones were like crack, and that one day we would talk about that era like we talk about those heroin ads for housewives.

But recently I’ve been thinking a Butlerian Jihad cannot come soon enough.

There is a caveat that the internet we experienced when we were ten/whatever was much different than the kind that affects the world now. Or maybe it only seems that way because the boomer/zoomer adaptation is making the relationship to the internet seem different. But if they never knew the internet we knew, will they ever think to want something like it? When people were arguing that Twitter should legally be treated as a public utility in the US because it is the "public town square", I thought we are not going back to the way the internet was when we were ten. But you could be right, or at the very least your thinking could be right/better for the soul (not being cynical and looking for bright spots where they might be).

Counter-prediction: For most, computer HAS TO become beer, and everyone will learn to shitpost and not get mad. (sedatives are mainly for the working class) For others, it HAS TO be crack (or cigarette), since their lives need the internet to help maintain productivity and stability. (Historically, nicotine-like incense are used by monks to help with reciting scriptures)
