On the first part of this essay I am strongly reminded of Lewis' Abolition of Man trilogy of lectures wherein he makes the argument that picking and choosing pieces of what was handed down ultimately results in placing oneself/society outside of the (Tao) tradition entirely and invalidates the entire project which is only valid within that tradition. The gist of it from a values-orientation is that selecting one piece of it, say, Love, and judging everything else within that will lead to just as much corruption and disaster as choosing Reason because it has been removed from the matrix wherein it can be rightly approached, thought of, and applied.

"As a recent example, the phenomenon of the 00's Internet atheists, what we now call fedora atheism, was always philosophically and attempt to rationalise “Christian” (Western civ, call it what you want) social ethics, but without the embarrassing hocus pocus. They all coincidentally happened to discover by pure reason and logic, most of the social and moral ethics of the society they grew up in."

Jordan Peterson in a nutshell. Ironically, there's an old video floating around on Canadian Youtube of him in a fedora imploring men to wear them as a marker of trad manhood.

It is as uncanny as it is infuriating how accurately you have diagnosed the spiritual malaise that plagues the west. The gloves have come off and now the true free for all is going to start. Atheists and Steven Pinker types pretty much memed a Hobbesian hellscape into reality. GG gentlemen.

Certainly some of this piece is resoundingly true. Some of it is ballet where words truly remove the ability to think clearly which is the opposite of the authors point. When we demand attention to jargon, fundamentalism or the past we invoke division. Division ultimately leads to violence of one sort or another. When we observe without judgement then the real magic happens and we have a chance to evolve. Ya can't have evolve without love.

Speaking of love, Love the last three paragraphs. As an alcoholic it rings truer than most everything and supports my theory that the only proven therapy for addiction that has ever worked is AA and that is because AA says that we are helpless until we accept the help of a higher power and then bear down and DO THE GREAT WORK. Get it? "The Great Work"??? lolz, see what I did there? Thanks Egg Report!
