Tangent, but this is the psychological reality of pornography, and its destructiveness increases the more it exploits this. True of all addictions, all vices, but especially true of porn. The gates of hell are locked from the inside.

Beauty is existential meaning in a bottle -- it holds inherent value that is immediately obvious. To witness it is to allow it to ask your conscience a question: "What do I mean to you? What am I worth to you?" If your conscience is guilty, it can't answer the question, so it dodges the question instead. It hides behind a tree while God passes by. But it knows. You know.
One of my favorite books on this specifically is Till We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. I like Lewis a lot. I don't know any texts specifically that frame guilt as spiritual cutting, though I've gotten that vibe from parts of the books of Job and Ecclesiastes.
