Reading many books searching for random gems and nuggets of wisdom... There must be a better/faster way but I enjoy the journey. As for philosophy if Wittgenstein basically says the purpose of philosophy is to explain the world - or at least give us a way to understand it - I agree.

I too learned to read by teaching myself when I was still in diapers .
The sheer number of people who are in charge of books but don't like to read and so try diligently to dissuade others from reading astounds me .

That is true, reading never feels so good and pure as it did when you were 11 ,but then again does anyting ?
Many of my beliefs stem from The Librarian Telling Me Not to Read Above My Grade Level.
Just give him the bible, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien and Kirkegaard. Everything else is just not as good
